"I would have to say the difference is the passion and the desire to express that passion.  Being IN LOVE to me is not exclusively for your romantic partner. I have been in love with a friend, my daughter, life, and something I was doing.

Being IN LOVE is full of intensity, excitement, anxiety, needs and desire to consume the other person or thing. It happens to you and is organic and consuming. When I am feeling in love I want to be as close to them as possible and it is often insatiable. Sexual arousal or a need to squeeze the crap out of them. Love is more of a feeling of respect, gratitude, and appreciation. A good relationship will go between both."
